6.2 Earthquake near San Jose

We had quite an earthquake last week, and many people in the Central Valley have suffered losses or injuries. Fortunately, Tamarindo was virtually unscathed by the 6.2 magnitude quake and as far as we know everyone here came through it without incident.

One of the many wonderful things about the Guanacaste coastline is that we have very few natural disasters. On occasion we suffer light flooding, but most of the floors and walls are made of concrete, so the damage is typically light or none. Occasionally we have light earthquakes, but unlike the Central Valley, our seems to be lower magnitude and most structures here are either low in height or modern in engineering. Significant earthquake damage is in Tamarindo is rare.
